As I pack my bags (so many bags) ahead of my long anticipated return to NYC, I’ve developed a new appreciation for my favorite kitchen basics. A really great knife, a pan that does everything, multi-purpose deli containers, and the pantry items that I couldn’t live with out.
Chef’s Knife
As a home cook, you really only need one knife. Don’t waste your money on a whole knife set and just get a good chef’s knife. When cared for properly this can last a lifetime.
Cast Iron
I use my cast iron almost daily. It’s a real time, and space saver when making one pan meals that you can throw into the oven.
Deli Containers
These reusable, dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe deli containers are perfect for keeping your entire kitchen organized. I use these to store leftovers, chopped fruits and veg, spices, salad dressings and more.
Oxo Cutting Board Set
I swear by these cutting boards. They’re also the same cutting boards we used in culinary school as well as in restaurants. The gripped sides keep your cutting board in place while the rimmed edges prevent spill over onto your countertops.
Mandoline
This Japanese mandoline is the best that I’ve ever used. This is the exact model that is included in culinary school tool kits and also the model that I’ve seen most in restaurant kitchens (that’s how you know it’s good) Plus, it’s compact design makes it perfect for apartment living.
Thermpro Instant Read Thermometer
My most favorite thermometer of all time. Extremely accurate and affordable
Diamond Kosher Salt
I know some of y’all are rocking with some dusty ass kitchen salt. Do us all a favor and spend $5 for this top tier salt: diamond crystal.
Maldon Salt
My go to finishing salt. It looks pretty and tastes incredible. Not overly salty. Very clean and mild salt flavor.
California Olive Oil
My go to everyday olive oil. The perfect balance of flavor, quality and affordability.
Mike’s Hot Honey
This is universally applicable, but is most necessary for topping a slice of pepperoni pizza.
Calabrian Chilis
I put these on EVERYTHING. They’re sold in most grocery stores in the jarred sauces isle.
Laoganma Fried Chili Oil
Another chili product that I’m obsessed with. This chili oil plus eggs, steamed rice and vegetables is my go to quick weeknight meal.
